By reading and studying the following verses one can gain an understanding of Jesus and how and where He prayed to His Father in Heaven. Likewise one will learn that Jesus taught that one should pray in secret when at home and to often go alone into the wilderness to pray. He was furthermore thoroughly disgusted with those who prayed loud and long in public places.

“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” (Mark 1:35)

“So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.” (Luke 5:16)

“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.” (Matthew 5:5)

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” (Matthew 5:6)

“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows houses and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.”

(Matthew 23:14)

“Even so you outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.” (Matthew 23:28)

“Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell? (Matthew 23:33)

Having studied the words of Jesus how can anyone promote forced prayer in public schools? How can anyone promote making a spectacle of prayer at football games? How can anyone think that defying Jesus and His very plain instructions will bring them honor and glory in Heaven?

Do these modern day scribes and Pharisees, who take the form of loud-mouthed politicians, bible thumping televangelists, and a broad range of other self-serving hypocrites really believe that Jesus meant the opposite of what He very plainly said?
