Throughout the millennia, religion has played an important role in the lives of humans. In the search for God and the meaning of life, various peoples of various civilizations, have developed varying spiritual concepts of Earth’s origins, morality, ethics, the meaning of life, the meaning of God or gods who are believed to be in charge of the Universe, the concept of eternity and infinity, and the belief in an afterlife.

Apparently there is a deep seated psychological need in the human psyche to create and institutionalize religion. Even those who call themselves atheists have institutionalized their philosophies into a religious culture that is not ruled by a god or gods, especially an anthropomorphic God the Father.

As religions evolve they tend to develop rigid infrastructures and their followers become mesmerized by the inflexibility of a structure that instills justifications for unethical acts in the name of their god. When a religion justifies and institutionalizes hatred, bigotry, war, human sacrifice, slavery, genocide, as well as crimes against nature and the life support systems of the planet, movements to reform that religion and expunge its negative features oftentimes arise.

Usually the power elite who have taken charge of the religion in question are able to stifle the reformation movement by various nefarious methods including torture, imprisonment, and killing.

The spiritual heritage of the majority of Americans has its roots in the Middle East where Jewish monotheism rose to power over the other religions. As the religious leaders of their day grew in power, they became greedy and unethical in the actions which gave rise to one of the most successful reformers in history, Jesus of Nazareth.

Jesus was not trying to start a new religion, he was merely hoping to return the Jewish people to the kind, gentle, generous, and moral aspects of the faith of his ancestors and expunge the greed and corruption that had infected his faith tradition. Jesus spoke out publicly against hypocrisy and greed within his faith. Obviously he struck a nerve because the religious leaders of his day saw to it that he was crucified. Jesus would be shocked to see how Christianity has been corrupted over the centuries by various sects and branches which even fight against and kill one another.

The teachings of Jesus became institutionalized in a new religion called Christianity. By the year 600, Christianity too had become powerful enough, corrupt enough, and hypocritical enough, that another reformer arose to attempt to bring both Jews and Christians back to the moral aspects of the faiths of their ancestors. This reformation leader is known as Muhammad.

Just as the corrupt Jewish leaders of his day were not content until they had crucified him, so too Muhammad and his followers faced opposition from those Christian and Jewish leaders who wished to maintain their power with the status quo. Muhammad preached that it was wrong to start a war but if you and your family are attacked, it is morally correct to protect yourself from harm. Just as Jesus would be shocked at seeing Christians behaving as heathens, so too would Muhammad be shocked to see Muslims subjecting innocent persons to terroristic acts, because Islam was designed by Muhammad to be a religion of peace and kindness.

After the Roman Catholic Church had become powerful and corrupt, another reformer, Martin Luther emerged. Subsequently, the reforms he instigated, have been changed, modified, and institutionalized in many forms, some good, some not so good.

Today, all three religious faiths that can trace their roots to a common origin in the Middle East are in dire need of a NEW REFORMATION that would at least temporarily bring people of faith together in a common effort to bring peace to the world.

Moses, Noah, Jesus, and Muhammad would indeed be delighted if this concept of a NEW REFORMATION for THE NEW MILLENNIUM would occur.

THE UNIVERSAL ETHICIAN CHURCH invites peoples of all religions and all faith traditions to join us in a common effort in what we call THE ETHICIAN REFORMATION which is based on THE GOLDEN RULE OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM.

THE ETHICIAN REFORMATION is based on the common principles of goodness, kindness, stewardship, generosity, ethics, love, and peace as taught by the religious reformers of old.

If we can but come together in a common bond, based on the good teachings of the Patriarchs of the Judaism, the good teachings of Jesus, and Muhammad’s desire for peace and prosperity for all, our world has a chance of survival.

If we continue in our errant ways toward world conflict and the destruction of the life support systems of the planet, then the human species is headed toward extinction.
